T-Mobile, Sprint and Metro by T-Mobile IMEI unlock

46,000+ orders completed · rejected orders are refunded automatically

T-Mobile, Sprint and Metro by T-Mobile share one device database, and the answer to "can this phone be unlocked" depends on three things it records for the IMEI: whether the ESN is clear or carries a carrier block, whether the contract is Fully Paid or carries Unpaid Bills, and whether the unit came from the Sprint side. IMEI.DATE splits the job into the same layers. The eligibility check returns ESN Status, Contract Status and the Sprint Device flag in seconds; the Pro check adds the reason for a block and the financing type when T-Mobile returns them.

For iPhones that T-Mobile will not release — financed, in-contract or carrying an unpaid balance — the premium unlock accepts T-Mobile, Sprint and Metro devices up to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, with a separate service for the iPhone 18 family. Metro by T-Mobile Android phones are unlocked through the Device Unlock app once they have been active for the tenure Metro requires; Metro handsets without the app receive an unlock code in the reply.

Every order is processed automatically around the clock, bulk input and the API are available for resellers, and a rejected order is refunded to your balance in full. The one exception is the Metro "Unlock + Check" app service, where a status reply counts as the paid result even when the device cannot be unlocked.

Requirements

  • The IMEI (dial *#06# on the phone or see Settings > General > About).
  • The device must be locked to T-Mobile, Sprint or Metro by T-Mobile: the Apple activation policy names the carrier. Not sure? Run the Carrier Policy Report first.
  • Premium iPhone unlock: financed, in-contract and unpaid-balance devices are accepted. An IMEI that carries a carrier block stays blocked on US networks after a SIM unlock, so check the ESN status first.
  • Metro app unlock: an Android device with the Device Unlock app, active on Metro for at least 180 days and in good standing; iPhone is not supported by the app services. Metro's own rule moved from 180 to 365 days for devices activated after May 2024, which is why many recent units come back Not eligible.

How it works

  1. Run the T-Mobile Unlock Eligible Status Check: ESN Status, Contract Status (Fully Paid or Unpaid Bills) and the Sprint Device flag arrive in seconds.
  2. Clear ESN: order the premium iPhone unlock (T-Mobile, Sprint or Metro; financed and in-contract accepted) or, for Metro Android phones past their tenure, the Metro app or code unlock.
  3. Blocked ESN: the device is not a candidate for the unlock services on this page; the check tells you before you pay for an unlock.
  4. iPhones come back Unlocked after a restart with a non-T-Mobile SIM; Metro Android unlocks are pushed to the Device Unlock app, code-based phones get the code in the reply. Rejected orders are refunded automatically.

Frequently asked questions

What does "Contract Status: Unpaid Bills" mean?

The eligibility check reads Contract Status as Fully Paid or Unpaid Bills. Unpaid Bills means the device still carries financing or an outstanding balance, so T-Mobile itself will not release it. The premium unlock accepts financed, in-contract and unpaid-balance iPhones.

What does a blocked ESN status mean?

T-Mobile has placed a block on the IMEI, for example for non-payment. The Pro check names the reason and the financing type when T-Mobile returns them. A blocked IMEI stays blocked on US networks even after a SIM unlock, so check the ESN status before ordering an unlock.

What is the "Sprint Device" line?

It tells whether the unit came from the Sprint side of the merged network. Sprint devices are unlocked through the same premium T-Mobile/Sprint/Metro service.

The check returned "ESN Status: No Devices found". Is that an error?

No. IMEIs unknown to T-Mobile return "No Devices found", a valid answer and not a refund case. It means the phone is not in the T-Mobile database — most often it belongs to another carrier. Run the Carrier Policy Report to see the activation policy.

Why does my Metro phone come back Not eligible after 180 days?

Metro's own rule moved from 180 to 365 days of activation for devices activated after May 2024, so many recent units are still inside the tenure period. Devices activated earlier keep the 180-day rule.

Does the Metro app unlock work for iPhone?

No. The Device Unlock app services are for Android phones; iPhones locked to Metro go through the Metro iPhone service (active 180 days) or the premium T-Mobile/Sprint/Metro iPhone unlock. The unlock is pushed to the app, so open the Device Unlock app on the phone after completion to apply it.

What happens if the order is rejected?

A rejected order is refunded to your balance automatically, in full. Submitting the wrong carrier, an unsupported model or an already unlocked IMEI still consumes the order. The Metro "Unlock + Check (No Refund)" service is the exception: its status reply counts as the paid result.

The official route

T-Mobile unlocks devices itself at no charge once they meet its unlock policy: the device must be fully paid off, in good standing, and active on T-Mobile service for the period the policy requires; Metro by T-Mobile applies the same policy with its own tenure rule (365 days for devices activated after May 2024, 180 before that) and delivers the unlock through the Device Unlock app on Android. Postpaid customers can request it from their account or the T-Mobile app. If your phone meets those conditions, the official route is free. The services on this page are for the cases T-Mobile turns down — unpaid balances, financed and in-contract iPhones — and for resellers who need the eligibility answer in seconds and in bulk.
